I came back to the US for about 2 months already.

It feels really good to get a lot of US side problem handled, and got couple deals going on in these two months. The bad thing about US tho…. it’s such a relaxing place to stay, in fact, too relaxing it can make someone lose motivation.

I suddenly realized I’m in such a perfect position. I get enough rest, fully charged up in the US, and then I go to China to do my thing, blast all my energy, come back to the US again to charge up. I like both countries, which are two extreme opposites, it’s good to have some kind of balance in between so I don’t get too over worked or over relaxed.

Now I feel I had enough and I’m almost about to lose my motivations, time to go back to the fast tempo. I’ll be leaving to China on 12/30…….. and I’ll be doing count down onboard……. SUCKS haha

For any of you non-Chinese speakers, if you’re trying to seek China opportunities, call me up! =) You know China is one of the richest country in the world, yea you know it lol

A lot of stories and cases I hear about friends, brings up some concern that which I want to write about and probably give you a heads up before you get into something. There are mainly 3 types of money-makers that make up the whole economy. And the true fact is - not everyone is good for each of them.

Investor

What it takes: Have good visions; Ability to foresee and analyse the market, the company, the people you’re putting money in. You shall be clear and know how a business is operated, and who are operating the business. You can see the potential of something other people can’t see.

What are the risks: You usually don’t have control or full control of the stuff you invest in, you might risk losing everything you put in without being able to do anything about it other than withdrawing from it early enough.

Stress level: Medium-high; You don’t have to worry about the things much, it’s pretty much a pay-and-wait game that you’re playing, and if you’re a good investor, you should be prepared to lose everything before you even consider investing.

What are Investors: Investors are usually rather lazy, they like to sit around and make money. Many came from running businesses and have cash in the bank. Drawbacks - they don’t have as many chances to meet people, thus a smaller network of people. Bottom line - They make most of the money with least labor, that’s smart =)

Business man

What it takes: Have good visions as well, ability to oversee a company, good communication and management skills. Business is planning + dealing with people. So if you’re not an out-going communicator, and you don’t think you can change that personality, go for another route. You also need a very high EQ to deal with the stress and troubles, if you don’t, I’m afraid you might be frustrated to death.

What are the risks: You may as well lose everything, but it will hurt more than the investors do, because you lose money AND the heart, motivation, labor work you put in the business, which you consider your baby. And a business tend to get you into most troubles such as law suits, liabilities, cash-flow etc. You may lose more than what you put in.

Stress level: Very high; No one wants to see their baby die. When your company is in any of the troubles mentioned above, you’ll get stressed out and it may drive you crazy, literary.

What are business people: These people HATE working for people, they can not sit in an office and taking orders and assignments from others simply because they do or they think they do have the ability to take control. They have their dreams, they wish to achieve something in their life other than just money, sometimes fame is related. These people don’t want to live their whole life without anyone knowing who they are, what they do. They like to create, manage, and control something that’ll bring them money and fame. They’re hard working, hard thinking people who also have ability to do it well. Drawbacks - sometimes hard work and hard thinking may not pay off, and it turns out to be a waste of time and money. Bottom line - These people will be highly recognized, in an area, a city, a country, or even Internationally, and they have connections everywhere which will help them through problems, and that’s something money can’t buy.

Workers

What it takes: Hard working, loyalty, ability to achieve success in a part of a business and create value.

What are the risks: This is a tricky question for a lot of workers, they work for other people because they think it’s secure. Well, it’s actually much riskier than they think, companies may go down anytime, and they may cut staffs if they struggling to cut cost. In fact, workers will never ever achieve a level of real security because what they get paid for are just not enough to guarantee their expenses forever, they will be hunting jobs for life.

Stress level: Low - because these people never realize the risk they’re in, so the only thing that’ll stress them is a slightly challenging tasks assigned by their boss.

What are business people: Workers work for others because they’re afraid to lose anything, they’re too scared to see money go out. Thus they stay working for other people, and feel happy about getting a paycheck for selling their time and labor to the company who pays them. They enjoy living a mediocre life cause it won’t bring them as much negative feelings. Drawback - They’re being paid by business people, and business people only pay them enough so they don’t quit, which means the pay is never enough; They spent a large portion of time doing the same thing at the same place with the same people, they don’t have the time, money, and quality to see what business men and investors see, or do what they do, their whole life will be living in a narrow space. Bottom line - In general they’re happier than investors and business people because they have less to worry about. They have and enjoy a good family and friends relationship, while the other two will sacrifice more time achieving something a lot bigger, and possibly ignoring their family and friends.

There’s nothing particularly good or bad about these 3 types of people, each have their good and bad, just make sure you choose one that is right for you. If you choose one that isn’t, change yourself to that particular type before you do so.

Once again MEGA Millions jackpot is hitting above $100 million, I never thought I will ever win any of these lucky money in my whole life. But hey, you never know! This number is very tempting! I’m going to buy a ticket and try out my luck just for the heck of it, if I don’t win, it’s a donation to the schools, and I’m doing the society some good;

And if I Do win?! What do I do with all that money? That’s actually a very good question. I did surveys with a lot of my friends, this is a good question to ask people if you’re looking for a potential partner.

95% of the people answer this way:

Damn, if I win and have all that money, I’m going to cash pay off 10 super cars, Ferraris, Lambos, Bentleys, you name it; And I’m going to do shoppings all day long at Beverly Hills Rodeo Drive. Oh, and I’ll of course get myself a $10 million dollar mansion to store all my nice super cars and stuff I’ll be buying…… then it goes on and on and on…..

And the 5% rest, may answer like this instead:

Umm, I’ll probably use a portion to buy some commercial properties, apartment buildings to build a steady passive income to make sure I will never be able to waste all my money. Also put some of that in the stock market to build a comprehensive portfolio for saving and profit generator, the annual dividend will also buy me some nice meals and gadgets. Once I got those couple things secured, I will start investing and starting up businesses I like, because the core difference between running a business and investing in real estate or stocks, is that running a business can gain reputation and build relationships by interacting with other people out there, these two things will make my life much easier and get me what money can’t buy.

After that, I’ll start enjoying my life - The rent income from commercial properties will settle my monthly payment of my super cars as well as the mortgage of my mansion, so other people are paying for my sweet biggies and I don’t spend a single dime on them, the remaining portion of the rent plus stock profits will still make a good income for my daily expenses. And if my businesses go well, I’ll end up on magazine covers with me sitting on the hood of my Ferrari, the article title will be “The Youngest Billionaire Entrepuenur Whatever Business”.

The above statements are in major differences - The first one is from an unsuccessful person with short vision, who will NEVER become successful. And the 2nd? He will become successful although he’s not yet successful. And that is also the differences of the way how Winners and Losers look at money. Winner always wins, loser will always lose.

If you’re looking for a person to make money to together with you, ask them the million-dollar-question ”What will you do if you win $100 million dollars?”

ShareThis

Few weeks ago I decided to drop $180 on this bottle of 2005 Opus One. Opus One has long been one of the most well known yet controversial American wines. It’s actually more of a French and American crossover, produced by Robert Mondavi (#1 in US) and Baron Philippe ( Château Mouton Rothschild, top 5 in French ).

Some say it is way too over rated, some say it’s over priced, some say…… well that’s why I decided to try it, out of curiosity .

First impression after openning

Color: Dark red
Aroma: Strong cherry, a bit of strawberry and plum, and some terior
Taste: The wine takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour decanting to fully open up, before that it tastes like premature red fruit. I could still tell it was well balanced but very boring at the very beginning.

After decanting

Since WoodRanch BBQ & Grill didn’t have a decanter, we had to wait for the wine to decant inside the bottle, however, the 45 minutes wait was well worth it. It turns into something that’s very exciting, hits your palate with a strong cherry sweet-sourness, instantly followed by a strong dark chocolate-liquor flavor - just right after the “chocolate” melted, brought up a sense of alcohol mixed with mild bitterness. Savor is quite short comparing to a typical French wine.

It’s been almost a month now since I tasted the Opus One, probably a bit too late for the wine note, but I tried my best memorizing every bit of it =) Overall well balanced and not too conservative, gives me the excitement but doesn’t hit me too hard like the Hidden Jewel Zinfandel I tried not long ago. I must say I liked it.

But I also have to agree the Opus One is over priced, $180 price tag is definitely granted by the works of medias and Robert Parker. I was pretty sure I’m able to find something very near as good, if not better, for under 20 dollars, and I did, and proved it with a blind tasting with a few of my friends.

P.S. Woodranch really needs to start using some REAL wine glasses, and have some rather professional wine accessories ready, I was very disappointed when the pretty waitress brought me the IKEA wine glasses and did the serving unprofessionally. Wasn’t feeling very well paying $10/bottle corkage for that…

Business is simple, in fact, too simple - Buy & Sell, period.

There are reasons why majority of business owners fail on such a simple subject, including myself. Several worst things people tend to do and screw up everything. If you’re doing any one of them, it’s not your fault, it’s part of human nature, but if you want to succeed, avoid them.

I’m listing all the stupid things I’ve done in the past, I hope this article will help all you new entrepreneurs. They’re the reasons why I’m still not driving a Ferrari yet! Most people hide their failure ’cause they’re afraid to lose their reputation. It doesn’t matter to me, reputation is nothing if it doesn’t get me money. Bottom line, these are great lessons learned.

1.Working on multiple things at the same time

Yea yea, don’t put all eggs in one basket, that’s what we always hear from others, we just interpret it all wrong. I’ve been putting eggs in dfferent baskets for the past couple years. I thought if Business A doesn’t make money, Business B will, if B doesn’t, C must do. Thus i started up 5 websites, did affiliate marketing, and run an international trade business, all at the same time. Most of them failed, analysis follows…….

Let’s say I had $100k to invest within the 1 year time frame.
$60k went into the international trade business, which also occupies 7 months of the year.
$20k was dropped on the 5 new websites, takes me 3 months to work on
$15k on my already developed website. eats up about 2 months of my time.
$5k on affiliate marketing, which was done during night time, and I was a complete newbie back then, another 50% of the time is spent learning the tips and tricks.
The end result……
International trade business is still developing, not yet profitable.
All 5 new websites died because I simply didn’t have time to operate and manage them.
Sold the developed site because I already invested all my money so I had to sell some assets to maintain my living.
Affiliate marketing hasn’t got any real results, it made a 0% ROI, that is, dollar for dollar, and I realized it takes much more time than I thought to achieve a decent level of return, unfortunately time is what I lack because they’re all occupied by other stuff.

On the other hand, developing a business almost always takes more than you thought, no matter how well and accurate the business plan is. Lack of extra capital killed quite a few of my businesses, since I used up my money on other businesses, I didn’t have anymore to save them.

If you’re a business executive, you should always focus on one thing until it’s stable, then you move on to another one. Focus and consistency is essential.

2.Risking your personal living for business

Always evaluate how much you can invest without risking your personal living expenses. There are so many legendary stories about people using every single penny they have to start a business and eventually succeed, but one thing you don’t know is, those stories are likely the 0.000000001% of all the failure stories untold. True story, I did that myself because I was brainwashed by those stories without considering - Business doesn’t always profit.

Life was miserable, I woke up everyday thinking how am I going to survive the day, I didn’t have much left in the bank account and my business was not making money. Negative thinking, sad feeling, and pressure took up my whole mind, I lost focus, the situation loops back to worst things #1.

Attack, only if you’re sure nothing is stabbing you in the back.

3.Using your own money to start a business

It’s OKAY to do so, if your family if well off, it’s just not smart. Cash flow is another critical subject in terms of business’ survival. If you have money in the bank, keep it, use OPM (Other People’s Money), get a loan from the bank, recruit venture capitals, or sell a % of your company / idea to investors.
Your own money will come handy when the business burns all OPM and needs cash-flow, if you reverse the order, you’ll encounter a few problems.
1. Banks take quite some time to approve a loan
2. venture capitalist won’t be attracted to a company whose survival will rely on their money.
3. When your business is in debt, your shares will sell for a very low price, which is not worth it after all.
and at last, you’ll route back to worst things 1 and 2, struggle, and die out.

Be smart, use OPM. (Don’t be afraid to owe people money, you’ll pay them back, worst case is going filing Chapter 11, it won’t kill you)

4.Spending money carelessly

This is the thing I regret the most in the past few years, the life time most expensive lesson!
At one point I was earning up to $180,000/month, I was 19 years old. Just imagine a 19 year old kid suddenly making this amount of money, hell, I thought everything was so cheap.

Check out my careless spending list

$1.75 million dollar house

Cash paid off fully loaded BMW 5 series

Lexus RX350

$6000 TV

xbox 360, PS3, PSP…..

$7000 desktop computer

3 top of the line laptops with a combine value of $7000

$2000 mattresses

$3000 just to tint my house windows

$20000 trips to places

iPhone, Guitars, cool gadgets, and the list goes on forever

This is NOT a show off. Yes it’s cool having these luxuries, but the money spent on those, they’re gone, and gone forever! I could have generated another 10 million dollars or even 100 million dollars with all those money I literary threw away! I was that stupid. So for you young entrepreneurs, or newly successful business owners, DO NOT EVER spend like I did! Use your money wisely!
At this point, after paying so much for all the life lessons…… I shall start over, success is not too far away.

If you have read my blog before, you know I have a website, QPOP.com , which I promised to launch back in 2007. Well it did, but it never quite went the way I wanted it to be. The development quality is crappy, things don’t work, the design is not up to par, features are not user friendly.

I go really frustrated and abandoned it.

However, I brought up a bomb idea with it and we’re aiming at beta launch in Jan, 2009. The reason many of my ventures failed because I never put a time limit on my goal. I always say things like..

I wish to make it successful
I hope to laucnh it someday

But after reading John Chow’s book, his sentense really hits me hard, it goes like this

The difference between a DREAM and a GOAL, is that a GOAL is a DREAM with ACTION

And I’m gonna have to put a time limit on my dream

I WILL launch the brand new QPOP.com by Jan 2009.

I WILL buy my Ferrari F430 by 2010.

There you have my word.

Their products seem to have pretty good quality over all. Everyone has a cellphone, iPhone or iPod these days, so if you’re planning gifts for kids or cute toy loving girl friends, these products under $20 are your best bet! And the girls and kids will love’em!

These are a few of my favorites, if you’re hunting for gifts with a thin wallet, might as well go ahead and check it out
