Dream Cars Yay or Nay - Ferrari Episode

14 Nov 2008 In: Cars

If you’re ambitious like I am, and you have been thinking “If I become rich someday, I’m gonna buy one of those expensive super cars”. After a few debates with friends and people I meet, I decided to write a post about my opinions on each super car you may want.

You may ask why, there are tons of reviews out there about these super cars. The reason why I would write such a post is I’m looking at it from aspects of owning such cars as a successful person, style, and how you live up to it. It’s not exactly a car review…

Ferrari F430

This is very likely the very first car you think of when it comes to the term “super car”. The F430 has a gorgeous body style, it doesn’t have all the angles and shapes like a Lamborghini does, but it stands out there just like a super car should. Interior is civilized, although it isn’t all that fancy like a Bentley or even a Lexus, but hey, when you’re driving it, you don’t care! You’ll just enjoy the thrill and the music from the engine right behind your ears. It’s a proper racing car for the road.

Priced at roughly $168k, and you’re looking at $250 - $300k with extra options here and there, well priced and is worth every penny. This is my personal favorite of all, and I’m gonna get mine…… in two tone black & white with the Novitec mods, sweeeeeeeeet

Lastly I must say it styled just about perfect, not too sharp like a Lamborghini, so you worry less about jealous folks doing something nasty to your baby =d

Been a long time

11 Nov 2008 In: Personal

It’s been a long time since the last time I blogged.
I’m only gonna have one excuse, that I have been super busy
I always say that, but in fact some of the times in between, I’m too free and actually don’t know what to do, of course, too lazy to write a blog post.

I’m just writing to remind myself somethin’ because I realized whenever I struggle, either financially or mentally, I tend to forget the most important principle of all….

Ferrari dreamers work for money
Ferrari owners have money work for them

I been wanting to become a Ferrari owner, but I always tend to get myself to actually work for money when I struggle, which I shouldn’t.

Don’t get me wrong tho, it’s not that you can sit there and be a lazy ass all day, you just have to use your money to get properties, assets, and people to put together a money generating system.

2009, please make me a ferrari owner!

Stock Pick - NVDA | Option Pick - UVAHC.X

20 Jul 2008 In: News, Stocks

nVidia - NVDA

I believe kids know more about this company than adults do, nVidia manufactures leading computer graphic technologies. While heavy portion of the computers that exist have their video cards pre-equipped, The biggest group who purchase their retail products are high school students. Don’t get me wrong though, don’t ever underestimate a high school student’s spending power, when I was one of the poorest kid back in high school, i still managed to shovel more than $1000 a year just for video card upgrades just for the newly release PC games that requires higher and higher PC performance.

Reasons why I pick NVDA.

  1. The brand, most popular graphic card brand for years
  2. nVidia partnered up with Intel against the AMD+ATI combination, and a most recent news indiciated nVidia and Intel has worked out a solution for their next generation chips to co-op perfectly. Keep in mind Intel and nVidia both have the largest market share comparing to the competitions
  3. Continuous bad news of AMD for the past couple weeks had been giving Intel a strong boost, but nVidia didn’t raise all that much
  4. PE ratio only at 8.3 , there’s no obvious reasons or news bringing the stock down, I believe it is under valued. (Maybe people are being hot headed over Intel, and overlooked this one)

However, I don’t recommend speculating this stock, because its competitor, ATI is also a very good company (now part of AMD) and is catching up.  Bottom line: NVDA still has explosive potential in the long run.

For short term profit, you might look into its options, the following option is the one I’m going to purchase.

UVAHC.X
Call option
Strike price: $15
Last price: $0.15

I do see the possibility of the NVDA going over $15, and if it does, I should be looking at 500%+ ROI. Hey, that’s pennies on a dollor

Why should you NOT buy an iPhone 3G

11 Jul 2008 In: Gadgets

It almost makes me sick to see iPhone 3G news all over the Internet and how people are dying to get their hands on one.

But being a long time gadget player (new top of line smart phone per 3- 5 months average), and a former iPhone owner, here I give you tons of great reasons why you shouldn’t buy an iPhone 3G anytime soon. No I’m not anti-apple, in fact, I’m writing this post from an Apple Mac book Pro, and I always tell people this is one of the best laptops I’ve had.

Anyways, just to be fair, let me repeat the few cool things about the iPhone 3G.

1. 3G, obviously, you get faster Internet speed.
2. Works with Microsoft exchange (finally…), and now paired with the mobile me thing, which works just like exchange.
3. Open to 3rd party apps (finally)
4. The multi-touch high-resolution screen
5. Oh and the very nice Internet browser

After all, I really can’t find anything significant about the iPhone 3G other than the multi-touch screen which no one else has, yet.

Now for the reasons why you should NOT buy the iPhone 3g.

1. 3G? Finally? You’re late to the game. You’re like the very last high-end phone maker to enter the 3G thing? Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola, RIM Blackberry, you name it. Everyone has 3G already while iPhone was still running on EDGE. Too late
2. Microsoft exchange, same as above, TOO LATE
3. Open to 3rd party apps…. who doesn’t these days? Then again, too late!
4. Lack of MMS, Bluetooth file transfer. If I recall, I think my Sony Ericsson back in 2003 had all these, yet the 2nd generation iPhone still doesn’t have these, OH APPLE what are you genius thinking?!
5. Touch screen virtual keyboard is definitely not smart, being a former iPhone owner, I would say it’s definitely not slow to type on it when you get used to it. But I had to form my two hands in a weird shape to get the best out of it, and it hurts after typing for a while. And if you’re trying to kill yourself, you can use an iPhone to type text messages when you drive, it’s almost impossible. (I still prefer the Blackberry’s keyboard)
6. Very stupid built in camera. Anyone ever took a good shot of yourself without trying at least 5 times?
7. Tied to iTunes. This is one of the things I hated the most about iPhone. Heck, why do we HAVE to use iTunes to put music, photo, video, even ringtones in iPhone. Apple really thinks every single computer has iTunes installed? That’s not all, you can only sync from ONE iTunes library from ONE computer, if you want songs from another computer, sorry, you must erase all the songs in your phone in order to do that.
Imagine when you’re on the run and need to sync contacts or calendars from a computer within 2 minutes, and you figured it doesn’t have iTunes installed. Yup iPhone has great potential of leading to business failure.
8. Let’s see how do you make a simple phone call on iPhone. Slide to unlock–> Press to open phone app –> press contacts –> scroll up and down to find the contact –> press on the contact –> select one of the phone numbers to call. That’s 6 steps to just make a phone call, and it’s not possible to do this while you need to concentrate on driving cause there’s no keys giving you feed backs and you don’t know why you’re doing without looking. IPhone is convenient! Yea………. Right
9. Activation is a hassle, you can no longer activate your phone from iTunes, you have to do it locally at the apple or AT&T store, and they do panelize you for jailbreaking your phone, which means, no hope for using your iPhone with other carriers, and if you’re going out of your country, your iPhone just has to stay, cause it just won’t work with other carriers!
10. Oh and the $199 price tag don’t be tricked! Aside from that, you’re bind to a 2 years contract, activation fee, and paying $30 extra per month just for the Internet data.

There are a lot more to say about the iPhone. I definitely don’t love it although I don’t hate.

It’s nothing more than a regular phone with a very nice screen and browser. Apple just made it look good. But there are just too many basic but essential features that it just doesn’t have, and we just shouldn’t make do with it.

For people out there who are planning to get a nice new smart phone. Here are my suggestions.

If you’re after music, movies, regular phone features, and you don’t type a lot. - Nokia N96

If you’re business oriented, e-mail allot on phone, and use your phone for professional use - Blackberry Bold is around the corner and I strongly recommend this phone, not that I’m a Blackberry fan boy, actually I never really owned a Blackberry before, but after checking out the Blackberry Bold, it should be the best smart phone out there for business. (and it’s WAY faster than the iPhone, if you believe time is money, you know what to do)

And there are plenty new smart phones out there for the rest of you, choose wisely.

Being a businessperson myself, I just don’t feel like using the same phone every single high school kid out there uses. Simply unprofessional, it puts a shame on me (that’s why my iPhone is in someone else’s’ hand right now)

And last words to Apple iPhone fan boys
For iPhone to kill other smart phones out there? Dream on
Not till it equips all the basic features any phone should have…… and a real keyboard
Oh and….. be more like a tool, not a toy.

Market Down Since Monday

26 Jun 2008 In: Stocks

The stock market has been down in general for this week so far
So it would be a good news for those who shorted and placed put options on falling stocks.

Evergreen Solar went up to $12.8 after announcing the $300 million deal,  I shorted it on Monday, at $12.50 and covered at $11.30 yesterday, that’s almost 10% profits in two days, hey that’s a lot better than the 3.x% interest rate from the bank!  Good money to cover some of my Vegas trip expenses =)

Some people asked me why did I short it if I recommended this stock and predicted it can explode. Well, I’ve bene watching this stock closely for months like I mentioned. It appears that this stock can go up 20%+ in just a day or two, and it’ll slip back down to the 10 dollars range if there’s no further news to keep driving the stock up.

Don’t get me wrong though, that’s just short term, this stock still has great potential, and always do your own research before taking any actions.

Anyways, I’m off to Vegas………….

Earlier Stock Pick: Evergreen Solar Up 20%

19 Jun 2008 In: Stocks

One of the stock picks I posted on 6/17, Evergreen Solar (ESLR) went up 20.12% today from $10:24 to $12.30 today. Of course what I’m blogging is not any “It-will-go-up-soon” fiction. I believed the Evergreen Solar has the potential to grow based on research and analyzes ,

Ad: free stock picks and secrets

However, so that’s about it for being up 20%, I sold some of my ESLR shares today and gained $300 profit, nothing huge but good start with this stock. ESLR is actually a stock you can fall in love with and you’ll just keep buying and selling this same stock for a while.

One small tip for people who just started investing.
I knew this stock was going to blow up before the market opens when a lot other average investors don’t.
When you go to most finance related sites for stock quotes, they usually don’t show you the pre-market and after-market trading quotes. Pre-market and After-market are extended trading hours investors to trade before or after regular market hours, usually many sophisticated investors trade in non-regular hours. Therefore their activities in the pre-market and after-hours can be a good indicator of how hot the stock is for the day.

For this case today, ESLR, I noticed pre-market trading (Before 9:30AM EST) was so heated up and up $1.00+ already compared to previous closing price. Check screen shot below
Even if I sold the stock right at 9:30AM when market opens, It could still be profitable, although it later went up even more.

Guys, don’t overlook these information if you want to make money, information makes you a winner, let the losers stay behind.

To obtain Pre-market and After-market quotes you can log on to Nasdaq’s offical site .
Scottrade’s real time streaming system will also provide some pre-market quotes under bid / ask column minutes before market opens.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad

19 Jun 2008 In: Recommended Books

When it comes to books, “Rich dad, Poor Dad” (Rich dad) would always be the first one I recommend  to people I meet.

Like it says, it teaches you “what the rich teach their kids the poor and middle class do not”, it doesn’t go into details about how to get rich, but trains your mindset to start thinking like a rich person.

It’s definitely one of the life changing books to me, some friends often tell me I sound like Robert Kiyosaki (Author of Rich dad) when I talk. Indeed, I’m heavily influenced, but DON’T get me wrong, please DO NOT misinterpret and take this book as a step-by-step guide. Some concepts in this book might just not be right for you, you still have to do some thinking while you read, if it doesn’t apply, skip through.

Pros: Very good and positive financial mindset training

Cons: The cross sale in Rich Dad series can get a bit annoying sometimes, and it repeats the same idea over and over (but hey, repeating makes you remember right?)

Bottom line: Your financial education will be at a whole new level after you finish this book, although you might not get all that rich by just reading it, you will at least be able to better manage your personal finance, like never before.

After you finish with it, you might as well buy the Rich Dad board game CashFlow 101 to further practice what you’ve learn from the book.
